The Secession – aka “the golden cabbage” to some – is a must-see among Vienna’s museums. Its motto is “To every time its art. To art its freedom” and it stands by this by serving as a forum for young experimental art, though exhibitions include prominent established positions as well. The Secession was founded in 1897 by a group of artists led by Gustav Klimt who had split off from the conservative Künstlerhaus.
