The Secession – aka “the golden cabbage” to some – is a must-see among Vienna’s museums. Its motto is “To every time its art. To art its freedom” and it stands by this by serving as a forum for young experimental art, though exhibitions include prominent established positions as well. The Secession was founded in 1897 by a group of artists led by Gustav Klimtwho had split off from the conservative Künstlerhaus.

The Jewish Museum Vienna has two locations in the city centre: Dorotheergasse and Judenplatz. You will find a combination of permanent exhibitions and collections, as well as temporary exhibitions. Discover Viennese Jewish life before its destruction by the Shoah, the rebuilding of the Jewish community, and present-day Judaism in Vienna. We highly recommend a visit to this educational, moving and very human museum.
